Nowadays, respiratory-related diseases are increasing because of the horrible quality of the air that we breathe in. Air pollution is also causing people with fragile immune systems like kids and old people to get sick with respiratory diseases like asthma and lung cancer. This problem can happen outside and inside of our homes.
While we have no control over what is happening outside, there are some ways on how to ensure the quality of the air indoors. Contaminants are divided into three classes: dust, gases and bacteria.
The total count method uses a T-salt petri dish filled with liquid nutrient to determine the kind of bacteria that is present in the air. The dish is place in the room or air duct for twenty-four hours to see if there will be any changes.
After that, examine it to see if there are any changes. Red colonies indicate the presence of bacteria, fuzzy dots means the presence of molds in the air and white dots means that there are yeasts in the area.
Homeowners can now choose the right air filter after they have determined what kind of problem they have. Dehumidifiers can also solve mold-related concerns since it reduces the level of moisture in the house.
